As a woman under 40, Shalini embodies courage, the ability to let go and participate in life! She is an Investor, Entrepreneur and a Published Author. She is the founder of Purple Matter, a platform that invests in startups and works with entrepreneurs. She has 13+ years of experience across Venture Capital, Accelerators, Startups and Corporate.
Shalini published her first book, Clueless at 30, which is a light-hearted take on a millennial’s prevailing insecurities and challenges, and finding their way in the world. It covers her experiences and stories of entrepreneurs – the hustle, sacrifice, goof ups and more. It made it to the Amazon’s bestseller list.
Previously, she was the Head of 500 Startups, a global venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley. She led 500’s investments across India and invested in the region’s most talented founders. Her responsibilities involved uncovering new investment opportunities, effectively deploying capital and managing 60+ portfolio companies. She is an investor in several startups like Dealshare, Koo (Vokal), Tapchief (acquired by UnAcademy), among others.
Previously, she co-founded Epic, a rewards platform that could help enterprises reward its customers better. Epic’s reward program solution was deployed across companies like with the goal of enriching their customers’ brand experience.
Shalini is associated with several initiatives like Xprize’s Safety Prize as a panel member, Mentor at Facebook’s SheLeadsTech and was the Global Ambassador of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (UN supported initiative).
She was a part of the “40 Under 40” India Alternate Investment Professionals list in 2018, and recognized as a top Women investor by Business World in 2022. For her thought leadership around venture capital and startups, she was recognized as Linkedin TopVoice 2017.
Her speaking engagements include events at Harvard University, IIT Bombay, Facebook, Nasscom, Startup Grind, YourStory, Digital Ocean, and more. She has been vastly covered across different media platforms like CNBC, Economic Times, Mint, Hindu, Entrepreneur.com, YourStory, TechinAsia, where her opinions on latest trends in Indian startups and entrepreneurship are shared.
She has a Master of Science (MS) degree from London School of Economics (LSE), MBA from Liverpool Business School and is an Engineering Graduate from RVCE Bangalore.
